I just past this book over to my niece she too is a huge Dora fan.
We had great results with it when we were teaching my daughter to use the potty.
Shara was fully potty-trained by age 3 and I give most of the credit to her favorite character Dora the Explorer.
Ofcourse she had some accidents along the way but seeing Dora using the potty in the book she wanted to do the same.
We bought the potty with the toilet seat just like the one in the book. We got her to sit on it even when she did not want to do anything. This was just to get her comfortable with it.
When we read the book and it was time to flush the toilet we always let her be the one to do that.
She knew that Mummy and Daddy would go to the bathroom and then flush the toilet so she wanted to do it as well.
Especially seeing her cousins doing it when they come over to visit.
As she learn to recognize when she wanted to go we would quickly attached the seat to the toilet and let her do her thing.
Her reward was flushing it afterwards. This made her very happy and soon she was going more frequently than ever.
We bought a little stool so she can reach the tap and we taught her the importance of washing her hands thoroughly after using the bathroom.
Fay's reply: This is one of the biggest achievements in a preschoolers life.
When they are fully potty trained you know they are really becoming big girls and boys.
One important factor is rewarding them after little achievements are made.
And since they are Dora fans... a nice Dora toy" will be exciting.
Thanks for sharing Charmaine!
