Educating Preschool Children

My children preschool teacher said she enjoys educating preschool children. "Each child is different", she says "but at the end of his preschool years I am able to identify at least one area that has improved since he walked through that door".

Preschool teachers should understand that they are responsible for molding these children during the most important years of their lives. They spend more hours of the day with you than with Mum and Dad.

Although parents would administer the love and attention the child desires, he should have a bond with his preschool teacher. After all, she is the one most likely who will be the first to witness most of his early achievements. 

Preschool teachers are also the ones who identify some learning disabilities. They have activities to build fine motor skills and gross motor skills. These activities are usually fun time for the kids, whilst the teacher is recognizing if the child is experiencing any kind of difficulty when doing these activities.

Educating preschool children comes with vast amount of patience. They are children with different learning abilities and temperaments. Some kids are just not interested in indoor activities at all, whilst another group prefers these activities.

As a preschool teacher you have to know your children strengths and weaknesses. You may want to take the children who are not interested in indoor activities outside. Do not categorize them. Mix them and explain that each group will take turns doing indoor activities outside. You will get them interested in these activities and also recognizing their peers are doing the same. Reward them when the task is completed whether is was done outdoors or indoors.

Your teaching style cannot be the same every year because you have a new crop of kids each year. Be innovative; come up with new strategies to meet your children individual needs. This generally makes a good teacher.

Parents and preschool teachers need to have regular discussions about their charges. If there are any concerns you should talk about it. In doing this if there is a need for evaluations it will be done sooner rather than later.
